These terms describe different characteristics. They are not interchangeable quality grades, and none of them alone proves that a wholesale lot is suitable for a luxury wig or extension product.
What is cuticle-aligned human hair?
Each hair shaft has overlapping cuticle scales pointing from root to tip. Cuticle-aligned hair is collected and prepared so the fibres remain in the same direction. This matters because reversed strands can rub against correctly oriented strands and contribute to friction and tangling.
Alignment does not automatically guarantee full ends, low short-hair content or no previous chemical treatment. Those are separate checks.
What does Remy hair mean?
Remy is widely used for human hair with the cuticles preserved and aligned. In practice, definitions vary between sellers. A Remy label does not tell you the donor count, exact treatment history, length distribution or how the hair behaves after washing.
What is virgin hair?
Virgin hair usually means hair that had not been chemically coloured, bleached or permed before collection. However, the term does not always explain what happened during later commercial preparation. Ask about steam processing, colour correction, acid treatment and coatings.
What is raw hair?
Raw hair generally refers to human hair sold close to its original condition, with natural colour and texture variation and minimal processing. Because the market does not use one universal grading standard, the exact lot still needs to be inspected.
Is single-donor hair always better?
Single-donor hair can offer more natural consistency within one bundle, but donor count is only one variable. The result also depends on careful collection, direction, sorting, cuticle condition, short-hair ratio and suitability for the final product.
Which term matters most for wig makers?
Luxury wig makers often need fine fibres, natural movement, predictable direction, carefully matched colour and sufficient density through the ends. Instead of selecting by a grade name alone, define the finished wig and inspect the lot against that brief.
